The 3 best drinks to prevent cramps

Cramps in the calf, foot, thigh or elsewhere develop quickly, especially after sporting exertion. Here are the most effective drinks against cramps.

THE lack of hydration is often the main cause of cramps. That is why we recommend drinking approx 1.5 liters of water, or even 2 liters when temperatures are high, such as in summer. And this is also the case during a sports session or physical exertion at least two sips of water every 15 minutes. But which water should you drink? Are there other drinks that prevent cramps?

1. Water rich in magnesium such as Rozana or Hépar

Magnesium is a mineral that is mainly involved in the transmission of nerve impulses and muscle relaxation. It is particularly effective in effectively relieving discomfort and pain due to muscle cramps. Water is considered rich in magnesium if it contains more than 56 mg magnesium per liter. The mineral waters that contain the most are: Rozana, Hépar, Quézac, Badoit, Contrex and Courmayeur. If you are prone to cramps, also prefer rich water in sodium and bicarbonateespecially if the cramps occur, especially after sports exertion, as this mineral helps detoxify the lactic acid produced during sports training.

2. An isotonic drink

For cramps that occur after sporting effort, another solution consists of preparing a isotonic drink: this will promote the intake of water and minerals (it mainly contains sodium to recover salt losses in sweat) and nutrients to facilitate the replacement of what the body uses during exercise. It also helps to maintain good hydration during exercise. An isonotonic drink comes in flavored powder form (Iso+©, Isostar©, Energy Drink©…) dilute in water and drink preferably every 10-15 minutes during the sports session.

3. Red Tea Infusion (Rooibos)

“Red tea”, also called “rooibos”, is a drink that can be enjoyed both hot and cold. very rich in minerals, especially iron: a 200 ml mug provides iron (making it an ideal drink for people with anemia)potassium and magnesium essential for muscle contraction. Thanks to its rich nutritional value, Rooibos is a great ally to soothe muscle cramps and prevent their recurrence.
